Championship weekend and sand in Belgium

The past week has been the national championship week in USA. Moved back to its previous calendar place in December, the championship was always going to be a tough race with mud aplenty.
Much talk before the event was around whether Katie Compton could make it 15 in a row, surely a record that would never be equalled at elite level. A very fast start from Ellen Noble of Trek Factory Racing looked to have put the pressure on but a skilful downhill pass gave Compton the lead. She powered away to dominant and impressive victory. Ellen held on for 3rd place.

In the women’s U23 race, it was also a 1st and 3rd
for Challenge riders with Clara Honsinger and Sophie Russenberger respectively.

Belgium saw a weekend dominated by sand, with Antwerp and Zonhoven. In the Junior race in Zonhoven, Ryan Cortjens took another victory ahead of Ben Tulett and Thibau Nys. After some bad luck Eva Lechner finished 11th in the elite women’s race.

Nadja Heigl took the win in Austria at GP Lambach ahead of Joyce Vanderbeken. Finishing a weekend of bad luck, Helen Wyman finished 7th. In Japan Steve Chainel and Felipe Orts shared the victories in the two races that make up a weekend of events in Utsunomiya.
